The ‘Raise the Roof’ project at Todmorden’s Hippodrome Theatre moves forward as the contractor is appointed to begin construction.

We’re pleased to share that the Raise the Roof project at The Hippodrome Theatre, part of the £17.5M Todmorden Town Deal investment programme, has appointed a main contractor, with construction due to begin on-site in early May.

Todmorden’s Hippodrome Theatre is the country’s largest community-owned theatre, supported by over 350 local members and with more than 200 young members in their youth theatre. As part of its ongoing growth and commitment to the community, the Raise the Roof project will provide much-needed additional space and improved facilities for members, performers, and visitors alike.

The project aims to create a more accessible and inclusive venue, with flexible new spaces and improved front-of-house facilities.  Key objectives include a welcoming, fit-for-purpose foyer, dedicated spaces for events, studio performances, and community use, and significant improvements to access and circulation throughout the building.

Construction is scheduled to begin in early May, with an anticipated completion by Spring 2026. The theatre will remain open throughout, with only short periods of full closure.

Storah Architecture is delighted to be working on this exciting project with Todmorden Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society, and we’re looking forward to seeing it take shape on site with Rosslee Construction.
