Storah Architecture have carried out the restoration of the listed school building, designed by RIBA gold medalist John Gibson.
The school had been used by Calderdale MBC, before becoming redundant following the extension of Todmorden High School.
The project was to repair and stabilise the structure, which was affected by dry rot and damage caused by years of dereliction, and for a Change of Use to create a Community Hall, Workshop, Housing and Offices.
Major repairs were carried out to the roof structure, and throughout the building.
In the first phase two houses and a workshop were formed from the two storey end sections, whilst a community room was created in the centre.
There followed a further five phases of works to develop and expand the community facilities with a variety of grant funding, adding kitchen and WC’s, and a terrace which links the building to Centre Vale Park.
The project was carried out in a series of phases partially funded by Lottery grants and Landfill Tax Credits.
