Kitson Farm, Norland

 

Kitson Farm is a lifetime home situated in Calderdale’s Green Belt, replacing a dilapidated stable block previously on the site.

 

The brief was to create a modern, accessible, and sustainable home that adapts to the evolving needs of its occupants, serving the family for generations. The inclusive and flexible design balances contemporary living with practical spaces and comfort while respecting the rural character and complying with Green Belt planning constraints.

 

Storah Architecture worked closely with the family to design a highly energy-efficient home that works in harmony with its natural surroundings. The design maximises the site’s orientation, natural light, and weather conditions to reduce energy consumption and minimise its carbon footprint.

 

Energy-efficient materials and systems were integrated to ensure year-round comfort while limiting reliance on mechanical heating and cooling. Replacing the stable block with this new home marks a fresh start for the site, presenting a vision for sustainable rural living.

 

This project showcases how context-sensitive, future-focused design can meet contemporary needs while respecting the landscape. It reflects our commitment to sustainability, adaptability, and creating spaces that enhance lives and respect their environment.
