Silver Hill, Rochdale
Silver Hill is a large housing development in central Rochdale, featuring new residential buildings and heritage structures, including the Grade II listed Silver Hill Farmhouse, barn, and ancillary buildings.
The development includes new-build 3&4 bedroom homes, alongside the reuse and refurbishment of the historic farmhouse and its associated buildings to create 4 additional dwellings. The project brief involved seamlessly integrating modern housing with the preservation of the site’s historic character.
Storah Architecture led the re-use and refurbishment of the Grade II listed Silver Hill Farmhouse, barn, and ancillary buildings. Working closely with David Wilson Homes, we carefully balanced heritage preservation with contemporary residential development.
Our work involved reinstating historic features, removing intrusive security fencing, re-establishing key views, and enhancing the farm’s original setting. This thoughtful approach preserved the site’s architectural character while creating opportunities for new housing, ensuring a strong connection between the old and the new.
Collaboration with local planning authorities and design team consultants ensured that all interventions were carefully considered. The result is a development that successfully balances modern living requirements with the historical legacy of Rochdale’s landscape.
